Day 62 & 63 - Comings and Goings

Monday was a sad day in Delft. RJ left early in the AM to catch his plane back to CA. And then, today i had to say goodby to Robin, my officemate. i miss him already! he was the best officemate, and one of the funniest, smartest, and coolest people i've ever met. he's going on a 1-month bike tour of ecuador with his girlfriend. they bought this sweet tandem bike with all the latest gadgets and matching gear bags. the bike is white and it is really sharp looking. he won't get back until just after i leave to come back to the US, so we had to say our goodbyes. i hope i will see him again. maybe they will want to test out thier tandem bike in CA :)

when i got to work in the morning, there was a nice welcome back brunch in the atrium. i'm greeted by everyone with a wish for a happy new year, and either handshake or 3 cheek kisses depending on how well they know me. i like that personal connection. instead of just saying 'happy new year' in passing, its an actual physical connection. you stop, look someone in the eye, shake thier hand, and wish them a happy new year. just think about that. did you do that to anyone when you got to work on monday? probably not. i'm not sure why i'm focused on this. there is something about the physical contact of a simple handshake that reinforces and solidifies the words and makes them so much more meaningful. nearly everyone i see wishes me a happy new year in english. even if they are wishing it to a group of people, in all instances they say it specially to me in english. its done effortlessly and not begrudgingly. its not helping my dutch practice, but i appreciate the thought.

i talk to everyone about thier holidays, what they did etc. there also some really good apple flops (sugar coated apple filled pastries) which were amazing. i wanted two. but i only had one :). i caught up on all my email. there was a ton. patrick called me in the morning to discuss my career identity crisis. apparently he's not sleeping hahah. the talk was good and got me pointed in the direction i need to be going. some decisions to make soon, but i feel like pieces are falling into place.

after work i go to my kickboxing classs. its official, ive lost my gloves. so i borrowed some again. class was fantastic as always. a bit full though. i think people are on thier new year's resolutions right now. i checked the mailbox of the girl who's apartment i'm staying at. that thing was so stuffed i dont think one more letter could fit in there! one of her friends is supposed to be checking, but obviously she hasn't hahaha. based on the newspapers, i dont think its been checked in 5 weeks.

so i check out some TV on the internet. MTV's bromance... seriously??? my IQ dropped at least 20 points after watching an episode. the premise is rediculous, the people on the show should all be extiguished to protect the rest of us from accidentally breeding with them, and the hot tub elimination far eclipses even the stupidity of brett michael's "i'm sorry, your tour has ended". will i be watching next week's episode? heck yeah!
